Auction based community ads

The Blob widget is unique in that it introduces an auction based community advertising element. This means you can set dynamic pricing rules for the widget and allow the public to replace your offer and hijack your web network.

This is an experimental monetization strategy and should be used with caution as there are no content filters or authentication requirements for posting community ads. Which means people might post explicit or unwanted content on your website. We plan to add authentication and curation for these community ads but for now they are open to the entire internet.

How it works:

Create your widget and toggle payments (Must be a blob widget)
Configure pricing: Set your base price along with pricing increments and max price
Set time based rules for how community ads will be displayed (min and max time limits)
Install your widget

Auction dynamic:

When users engage with your widget, they will be prompted with your offer as well as an option to replace your offer for ($x) based on your pricing configuration.
If they click the “Replace Offer” button we will show a screen with your ad display rules to the user along with a form to add their offer and make a payment.
If a valid payment is made, we will then replace your offer with the new offer for the designated timeframe.
The “bid” price will then increase based on your configuration allowing someone else to make a higher bid to replace the current offer when it expires (after the minimum time display).
If no competing offer is made, the current offer will remain visible for the display time limit and then reset to the original offer after the designated timeframe.
This creates an auction based community advertising dynamic that can be useful for monetizing your website and creating a game out of placing ads across your existing web network.

Roadmap:

We are working on automated content moderation to reject ads with explicit or sensitive content. Eventually we plan to let users schedule their ads as well as requiring authentication before a user can place an ad to make sure random people cannot hijack your website. We also are considering other stripe payment integrations, possible ecommerce integrations and more.
